Review of Zinn So Far

Zinn seems knowledgeable about the history of the United States. However, I would say he almost is too focused on the unrepresented; he skips the majority of the reasons for the Europeans actions. None of their atrocities are forgivable, but the words he uses to describe of the actions are a bit on the biased side. An example of this is the phrase “stole a small silver cup.” Why couldn’t be have just said a silver cup. He is definitely trying to create sympathy for the losers, which in this case, are the Native Americans. It appears to be a solidly researched and well-executed book, if a tad biased and predictable.

  1. I think Zinn would admit that he is biased and that he is presenting history from one particular point of view, but he would also that this is okay because it is a view that has been left out. Note - you're not suppose to come up with your own view of history by looking at Zinn and the other textbooks (which tell history from different points).
